Pierre Jules Mene (1810 - 1877) was one of the most successful French animalier sculptors of his time and he created many inspirational sculptures that are widely admired and very much sought after today. The originals are hugely expensive and out of the reach of most people's pockets so we are delighted to be able to offer a top quality reproduction of one of Mene's finest and most successful sculptures, L'accolade - a bronze study of an Arab Stallion and Mare, interlocked in a romantic and powerful pose. The original was exhibited at the Salon of 1853 and the Exposition Universelle of 1855. This fabulous composition captures the individual characteristics superbly, the spirited stallion and 'tetchy' mare. Cast using the traditional lost and mounted on a black marble base.
