A heavy, hot cast bronze (no resin) sculpture using the lost wax method and mounted on a dark and light brown veined solid marble base. There is a foundry stamp and the number 38 carved into the base of the bronze. The creation of this sensuous, exotic, Art Deco dancing lady pays homage to the works of prominent Romanian sculptor and artist Demetre Chiparus (1886-1947) who produced some of the world's most spectacular and sought after sculptures. This lovely piece has all the influence of the ballet and theatre upon which he based many of his designs. Even as a reproduction, this incredibly detailed sculpture is a perfect reminder of the originals of yesteryear. She is barefoot and bare breasted and wears an Egyptian influenced skirt that falls in folds as she dances. Her hair is held in place by an exotic Egyptian styled headdress and she holds a stick to give an added element to her dancing. She's lovely - her face is very pretty and so typical of the effort Chiparus made when sculpting beauties of his time. Height: 14" (35.5cm) / Base Width: 4" (10cm) / Base Depth: 4" (10cm) Supplied in a hard box with purple satin lining - the box has seen better days and is slightly battered so it's not part of this sale, just mentioned for transportation purposes.
