The sacred Egyptian Goddess Bastet was usually represented as a woman with the head of a domesticated cat. Bastet was the daughter of Re, the Sun God and was usually seen as a gentle protective goddess. Apart from joy, music and dance, she was also the goddess of love, sex and fertility. Cats were as sacred as Bastet and were a symbol of animal passion, her temple kept sacred cats - supposed to be reincarnations of the goddess herself.

This cold cast bronzed resin sculpture depicts Bastet adorned with jewellery and hand painted in blue, red, green and gold.
